Travelers visiting the United States for the first time are most surprised by the fact that the standard of living of service personnel in all areas of the travel business depends on the amount of tips. As it turns out, the employer counts and potential tips at least 20% of the cost of the service provided when calculating wages. A tip of less than 20 percent of the check is considered an insult by the staff.
Many travelers after a trip to the United States are outraged by the tip system in that country. And they strongly advise employers to pay worthy wages to their employees that their standard of living doesn’t depend on the tip which the client may not leave. For example: when ordering a cab through a mobile app, the client is advised to leave a tip for the driver before paying.
In European countries tips are a bonus to your salary and are usually 10% of the amount written in the check.
Unfortunately not all employers remember that the tip is client’s gratitude for excellent service and not the payment to the salary for the employee to live worthily. And the size of the tip is a personal matter for the client.
